Conferencia sobre Sorrow: Kindertotenlieder y Suor Angelica

📍 Club La Nueva España

Musicologist María Sanhuesa Fonseca opens the Ópera de Oviedo season with a talk that puts the two works opening the cycle in dialogue: Gustav Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, a song cycle on the loss of a child set to poems by Friedrich Rückert, and Giacomo Puccini's Suor Angelica, the opera about a nun living through grief and sacrifice behind convent walls.

Rather than treating them separately, Sanhuesa brings them together to see what they share and where they differ: both revolve around mourning and sorrow, each in its own musical language. It's a good way to arrive with context for the performance that opens the 79th Ópera de Oviedo season.

The talk is on Thursday 10 September at 19:00, at Club La Nueva España, in Oviedo.
