Getting to Gijón and around
Before you worry about parking, start here: how to reach Gijón from the airport, by train or by bus, and how to get around the city once you arrive.
Getting to Gijón
By train
Gijón has a train station (Sanz Crespo) with Renfe services. From Oviedo there are very frequent commuter trains (about 30 min) and the old narrow-gauge line (Feve) hugs the coast. From Madrid or León you usually change in Oviedo.
By bus
ALSA links Gijón with Oviedo, Avilés and the whole of Asturias, plus Madrid and other cities. The bus station sits next to the train station, in the Sanz Crespo interchange, a short walk from the centre.
From Asturias airport
Asturias Airport (OVD) is about 40 km away, in Santiago del Monte. There's a direct ALSA bus to central Gijón (around 45 min). A taxi is faster but considerably pricier.
By car
Reach the city via the "Y" motorway from Oviedo and Avilés, and the A-8 (Cantabrian motorway) from east and west. Once in town, it's best to park as soon as you can.
Getting around Gijón
On foot
It's a very walkable city: Cimavilla, the centre and San Lorenzo beach are all within a stroll. For most visits, walking is the best option.
City bus
EMTUSA runs the city buses, handy for reaching the Laboral, the Botanical Garden or the outer neighbourhoods. You can pay on board, with a travel card for regular users.
By bike
Gijón is very flat with a good cycle path along the coast and the Piles river. The municipal public-bike scheme makes it easy to move between the centre and the beaches.
