On Sunday 4 October, Mieres Town Council's Tourism Department repeats its free guided walk through the old town to discover the sites tied to the October 1934 Revolution. It sets off at 5pm from Plaza de La Pasera, in Mieres del Camín.
In around two hours, the route takes in places such as the Parish of San Juan Bautista, the Casino de Mieres, Cine Novedades, the Pozo Balanza railway tunnel, the Town Hall, the old police station, the Palacio de Camposagrado, the Passionist convent and the Teatro del Orfeón Mierense, with a Spanish-speaking guide unpacking the history behind each stop.
It's free, but places are limited: booking is compulsory at least 48 hours ahead, through the council website or the Mieres Tourist Office.
