We're hosting the presentation in Gijón of the book "Magallanes frente a Elcano: el juicio de la historia" ("Magellan versus Elcano: the Judgement of History"), written by Sabino Laucirica, a merchant navy captain and maritime historian with more than twenty-five years of research behind him. After five years of work, the author makes the case for Basque navigator Juan Sebastián Elcano, arguing he has been overshadowed by the fame of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in the story of the first circumnavigation of the globe. The event, organised by the Alvargonzález Foundation, Gijón's Marina and the Royal Spanish Assembly of Yacht Captains, takes place in the Marina's auditorium and coincides with the anniversary of Elcano's death.
