Documental del mes: "amazomania "
📍 Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituto · View on map
The Antiguo Instituto Cultural Centre screens "Amazomania", September's documentary of the month, as part of the series organised by Gijón's Centro de Imagen. The screening is free, with entry until the venue is full.
The film revisits footage shot in 1996 by a Brazilian official and a Swedish journalist who ventured into the Amazon to document the Korubo, an isolated tribe caught up in growing territorial conflicts. What was hailed at the time as a heroic breakthrough is now given an uncomfortable re-reading: the film confronts the colonial legacy of that expedition and lays bare the consequences the Korubo people still live with.
Directed by Sweden's Nathan Grossman, the film, a Swedish-Danish-French co-production, screens in its original language with subtitles and runs for 93 minutes.
