Documental del mes: «Amazomania» (online)

📍 Gijón

«Amazomania» can be watched from home for ten days as part of the Documental del Mes series programmed by the Centro de Imagen of Gijón's municipal culture foundation. Access is free, but you need to request a personal code through the online form: it cannot be shared, so everyone interested must ask for their own.

The film starts from extraordinary material: the tapes a Brazilian official and a Swedish journalist shot in 1996 as they went into the Amazon to document the Korubo, an isolated people caught up in growing territorial conflicts. What was then hailed as a feat is now revisited with different eyes.

Thirty years on, that footage has been digitised and the conversations of first contact are translated by surviving members of the group, so the camera ends up turning towards the person filming. Winner of best film at DocsBarcelona 2026, it deals with colonial legacy and the long-term consequences of that encounter.
