Photographer and image theorist Joan Fontcuberta (Barcelona, 1955) gives the talk "The Future of Nature / The Future of Images" at Centro Niemeyer in Avilés, part of the Conferencia a pie de obra series, designed to hear the speaker right in front of the works being discussed.
Fontcuberta explores how today's technologies are reshaping both our natural environment and the way we represent it, drawing on projects such as De rerum natura and What Darwin Missed — which juxtaposes real coral photographs with impossible organisms generated by artificial intelligence — to probe the boundaries between science, fiction and visual imagination. The talk ties in with the exhibition What Darwin Missed, on free view until 13 October at the Centro Niemeyer square.
