Cinerama XXI, Gijón City Council's cycle celebrating 21st-century cinema, opens its programme at the Escuela de Comercio with Paolo Sorrentino's The Great Beauty. The film follows Jep Gambardella, a writer who at 65 still reigns over Rome's high-society terraces and parties, until news from his past pushes him to look at the city — and himself — differently. Sorrentino builds a dazzling, melancholic journey through a city where beauty coexists with emptiness, in a film that won the Oscar and the Golden Globe for best foreign film in 2014. Admission is free until full capacity, subject to picking up an invitation beforehand at entradascultura.gijon.es.
