Documental del mes: "numakage public pool "

📍 Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituto · View on map

The Antiguo Instituto Cultural Centre screens "Numakage Public Pool", November's documentary of the month in Gijón's Centro de Imagen series, with free admission.

For more than fifty years, Numakage, a public pool in a Tokyo suburb, was a meeting place for older people, families and gay cruising communities. Facing demolition, and despite local opposition, the film traces the collective grief over its loss through the five stages of Kübler-Ross, questioning why we usually reserve that kind of mourning for human death.

Directed by Japan's Shingo Ota, the documentary is a 2025 production running 80 minutes, screened in its original language with subtitles.
