Rutas urbanas por gijón

📍 Plaza del Instituto, Gijón · View on map

Rutas Urbanas, exploring Xixón and its buildings is a project devised and led by geographer David Alonso, inviting us to look with fresh eyes at the city we live in, work in or simply stroll through every day, through the small history behind each building. On this walking route we go through some of the architectural styles that coexist in Gijón: classicism, eclecticism, modernism, regionalism, art deco, rationalism, autarky, the modern movement and developmentalism. Beyond the architecture, the route also looks at the social, economic and cultural forces that shaped each stage of Gijón's urban growth: its advances and setbacks, the processes that made the city expand and, ultimately, how today's distinctive urban and rural landscape came to be. It sets off from Plaza del Instituto and no prior booking is needed: just show up at the stated time ready to walk and discover Gijón street by street.
