Avilés makes a lot more sense seen from the water. These boat trips leave from the Marina jetty, at the end of Paseo Manuel Ponga heading towards La Rula, and sail an estuary where the industrial port, the cranes, the marshland and the white silhouette of the Niemeyer all share the same view, with a guide on board explaining what you are looking at.
There are two options. The one-hour trip costs 8 € per person and runs on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 12.00, 13.15, 17.00, 18.05 and 19.10. The two-hour trip, which adds a visit to Espacio Portus, costs 12 € and sails on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10.30, 11.30, 16.30 and 17.30. The minimum age on board is four, and the Club Marina Avilés crew is always there: skipper, tour guide and reception on land.
Booking ahead is required, through the trips' website or by phone. The season runs until 13 September.
