Barco Pirata, Unahoramenos Producciones and Teatro Pérez Galdós bring 'La ópera de los tres centavos' (The Threepenny Opera) to Teatro Jovellanos, Bertolt Brecht's updated take on John Gay's musical parody 'The Beggar's Opera'. Premiered in Berlin in 1928, the play harshly denounces prostitution, poverty and the abuse of power amid an economic crisis. With music by Kurt Weill and libretto by Brecht, this piece in one prologue and three acts shows the rawest version of the capitalist system, portrayed as a vast machine of organised crime. The production is directed by Mario Vega, with Coque Malla in the lead role. A staging that combines theatre, music and social critique, at Teatro Jovellanos on 12 and 13 December.
