Fiestas de la camocha, virgen de covadonga
📍 La Camocha, Gijón · View on map
La Camocha celebrates its festival in honour of the Virgen de Covadonga from 4 to 8 September 2026, one of the most distinctive events on Gijón's festive calendar. This neighbourhood, with its strong mining heritage, uses these days both to honour its past — with tributes to the miners who gave it its identity — and to enjoy a classic countryside festival: a religious procession, communal food such as empanadas, stuffed bread rolls and cider-cooked chorizo, and night-time dances with live bands and Asturian folk music. To get there without a car, the council usually runs extra night buses from Plaza del Humedal. One of the liveliest neighbourhood celebrations at the start of Gijón's autumn.
