Cinerama XXI: Persépolis

📍 Escuela de Comercio · View on map

Cinerama XXI's family session at the Escuela de Comercio is devoted to Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, as a tribute to Satrapi's own memory, who passed away in 2026. Marjane is a child when the Iranian revolution topples the shah; her modern, committed parents welcome the change, but the new Islamic Republic soon imposes the veil and polices behaviour, and during the war with Iraq her rebelliousness grows increasingly dangerous until her family decides to send her to Vienna, where freedom coexists with loneliness and displacement. Adapted from Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novel with expressive black and white and sharp humour, the film won the Jury Prize at Cannes 2007, and its author received the Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities in 2024. Free entry until full capacity, subject to picking up an invitation at entradascultura.gijon.es.
