Cinerama XXI: La vida de Calabacín

Cinerama XXI's family session at the Escuela de Comercio closes the cycle with Claude Barras's My Life as a Courgette. Courgette isn't a vegetable but the nickname of a ten-year-old boy who, after his mother's death, arrives at a foster home believing he's now alone; there he meets other children carrying stories the adults failed to protect them from, and together they invent a form of friendship, trust and family. Made in stop motion and written by Céline Sciamma, the film speaks of abandonment and violence without reducing its characters to pain, with games, humour and a possible happiness, shown here dubbed in Spanish. It won two César awards and was nominated for the Oscar in 2017. Free entry until full capacity, subject to picking up an invitation at entradascultura.gijon.es.
