As September draws to a close, the deer rutting season (berrea) begins in the Sierra de Peñamayor, and this outing from Nava lets you get close to the action. The meeting point is the Nava Visitor Centre, from where the group drives in their own vehicles along unpaved tracks to spots where you can hear, and with luck see, the deer during the rut. Hiking clothes and footwear are recommended, along with binoculars, since the terrain is uneven and some stretches may scrape low-clearance cars. The activity, organised by the Nava hunters' association (AGRUDECA) together with Nava town council and the Mancomunidad Comarca de la Sidra, is free but requires booking in advance due to limited spaces.
