The Campa Torres Archaeological-Natural Park sits on a headland next to the big white gas spheres. This was the first great Astur and later Roman settlement: where Gijón truly began.
You can visit the hillfort remains and a dedicated museum, and from the lighthouse you take in the whole bay. It combines history and landscape in one plan.

Did you know?
- Here stood a great hillfort of the Astures, inhabited centuries before today's Gijón: one of the city's true origins.
- Nearby, in Roman times, the Aras Sestianas were raised, altars dedicated to the emperor Augustus.
- Today the site sits beside the huge white gas spheres, a curious contrast between the ancient and the industrial.
