Romería de la Trashumancia en Somiedo

The lakes of Somiedo host another edition of the Romería de la Trashumancia, a festival honouring the traditional sheep-herding practices that have shaped life in this natural park for centuries. The usual programme includes an opening address, the naming of the Pastora Mayor and Zagal, traditional tambourine music, and a flock accompanied by its guard and herding dogs.

The day culminates in a traditional countryside meal with spit-roast lamb and a big barbecue, under a marquee with tables and chairs, followed by live music. It's an event for anyone wanting to get close to one of Asturias's most deeply rooted livestock traditions in a unique natural setting.
