Travesía de navidad

📍 Puerto Deportivo de Gijón · View on map

The Travesía de Navidad (Christmas Swim) is one of the most traditional dates on Gijón's sporting calendar: every 25 December, the Marina fills with swimmers ready to brave the Cantabrian Sea's cold temperatures, usually between 12 and 15 degrees. Organised by the Municipal Sports Board, it is part of Gijón's Open Water Swimming Circuit and has become a classic of the Asturian winter. The race covers a short course, around 220 metres, between the La Barquera and Antigua Rula ramps, with categories ranging from under-14s to masters, and prizes for the top finishers in each age group. Hundreds of swimmers sign up every year for this unique experience, half sporting challenge, half Christmas tradition. A must for those brave enough to swim as well as for those who prefer to cheer them on from the Marina.
