The Real Club de Tenis de Gijón hosts the 62nd edition of the Torneo Dionisio Nespral, one of the most established clay-court tournaments in northern Spain, launched in 1964 with a roll of honour that includes names like Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer. This year it moves to new dates, 6–13 September, to avoid clashing with the solar eclipse that usually falls in mid-August.

Counting towards the ATP ranking and rated ITF M25, it hands out $30,000 in prize money across singles and doubles. Organisers expect a very high average level, with players like Ryan Nijboer, Sander Jong, Carlos López Montagud and Svyatoslav Gulin among the top seeds.
