Gijón holds the 15th edition of the MBA 'Villa de Jovellanos' Half Marathon, a race certified by the Spanish Athletics Federation in international category II that also hosts the Asturias regional championship for the distance. The 21,097-metre course, with a very gentle profile, starts near the El Molinón stadium and runs along the Paseo del Muro seafront by San Lorenzo beach, the marina and the Poniente beach area, before crossing the city centre and returning to the Las Mestas sports complex. With 3,000 places available, a finisher medal for every participant and over 5,000 euros in prizes, it is organised by the Municipal Sports Board together with A.D. Gijón Atletismo.
