Maria Stuarda

Maria Stuarda, by Gaetano Donizetti, comes to Oviedo's Teatro Campoamor as part of the 79th Opera Season, in a new co-production with ABAO Bilbao Opera staged by Emilio López.

The opera is part of the composer's Tudor Trilogy and is loosely based on Friedrich Schiller's drama Mary Stuart. The action takes place at Fotheringay Castle, where Elizabeth I holds Mary Stuart captive: the Scottish queen's pride leads to a fatal confrontation between the two women.

We recommend this performance to lovers of bel canto and historical drama: four performances in October at one of Spain's oldest opera houses.
