Día de América en Asturias (Oviedo)
📍 Oviedo · View on map
Oviedo fills its streets with colour for another edition of the Day of America in Asturias, part of the San Mateo festival programme. Since 1950, this day has paid tribute to the Asturian emigrants who made their lives in the Americas and to the countries that welcomed them, in one of the longest-running traditions on Oviedo's festive calendar.
The centrepiece is a large parade of decorated floats through the streets of the city centre, taking pride of place along Calle Uría and around the Campo de San Francisco park. It's one of the most anticipated moments of San Mateo, with thousands following the procession through the heart of the city.
Declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest, the Day of America keeps alive a tradition that links the memory of Asturian emigration with Oviedo's biggest popular festival.
