Fiesta de nuestra señora de el carbayu en Langreo

The hermitage of El Carbayu, in Langreo, hosts the town's most important countryside pilgrimage in honour of its patron saint, the Virgin of El Carbayu. Legend has it that the image appeared on a centuries-old oak tree at this very spot, and since 1954 it has presided over a festival declared of Tourist Interest, with almost four centuries of devotion behind it.
The day before, bagpipe and drum music accompanies a visit to the village of Pampiedra and a floral offering, ahead of the "barrenazu" that officially opens the festivities, a children's workshop and the first open-air dances. The main day begins with a flower-decked dawn parade and the blessing of the "ramu", followed by a sung mass and a procession carrying the Virgin's image, accompanied by bagpipe and music bands.
After the procession, hundreds gather for a countryside picnic around the hermitage, with traditional Asturian dress, the "puya'l ramu" auction and dancing into the night. Organisers run special transport from La Felguera and Sama throughout the festival.
