Moreda, the capital of the Aller municipality, holds its Fiesta de los Humanitarios every 11 November —the feast of St Martin— one of Asturias's oldest and most distinctive celebrations: it dates back to 1905, when the Sociedad de Humanitarios de San Martín was founded to help villagers in need, and it was declared a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest in 1985.
The day starts early with firework rockets and a Mass sung to the sound of bagpipes, followed by the puya'l ramu —the auction of blessed rye bread— and a parade of floats, pipers, dance groups and xandas dressed in regional costume. Fabada, casadielles and panchón are never missing, and the festival closes with fireworks and the traditional popular dance, where the crowd joins hands in a circle to the rhythm of the coplas.
