Cangas del Narcea celebrates its traditional Grape Harvest Festival, officially declared of Tourist Interest by the Principality of Asturias, with a weekend devoted to Cangas wine and the wine-growing culture of western Asturias. The programme, run by the Cangas Wine Brotherhood, includes the official opening at the town hall, a sung mass at the Basilica of Santa María Magdalena, a popular parade with a family photo session, the "Gran Capítulo" ceremony at Teatro Toreno, a guided wine tasting and the traditional grape treading. Anyone interested can also sign up for the paid gala dinner with dancing, which has limited places. A lovely way to experience the wine-making tradition of Cangas up close.
