Festividad de la ponte en pravia
📍 Puentevega · View on map
The village of Puentevega, in the Pravia council, celebrates La Ponte, one of the oldest festivals in Asturias, with popular tradition dating its origins back to the 16th century. Its hallmark is a livestock fair, unique in the Pravia area and one of the region's most established, setting it apart from other Asturian rural "prao" festivals.
The programme keeps a strongly rural character, with traditional trials and displays such as the standing skittles championship, ox-pulling and the horseback ribbon race. A sung mass in Asturian, always accompanied by bagpipes, rounds off the more solemn side of the celebration.
Over the centuries, La Ponte has managed to stay alive despite social change, and today it still shows the authenticity of rural Asturias against the unbeatable backdrop of the Arango valley, a festival firmly established as one for everyone.
