Jira día d’asturies en xixón
📍 Cerro Santa Catalina, Cimavilla · View on map
The Jira for Asturias Day in Gijón turns Cerro Santa Catalina into the festival's big family picnic ground: a best-picnic-spread contest (tablecloth, basket and sustainability categories), traditional danza prima led by Ramón Villa, and the customary 'puya del ramu' by the group El Xiringüelu, whose proceeds go to the local soup kitchen. The day continues with the songs 'Gijón del alma' and 'Asturias', the contest prize-giving, and an afternoon of traditional Asturian games such as stilts, skittles, tug of war and clog races, run by the Escuela de Xuegos Tradicionales 6 Conceyos, in a setting made for families.
