El lugar de lo inservible

The Teatro Jovellanos hosts El lugar de lo inservible ('The Place of the Useless'), a stage piece by Proyecto Alicia and Meraki Cía that turns waste and rubbish into poetic material. The show starts from a simple but uncomfortable question: what happens to everything we throw away, and where does it all end up?

Through several characters — a child surrounded by plastic, memories drifting up from the seabed, recollections that surface among the debris — the piece weaves a choral story about the search for what is truly 'useless': a hug, a sincere look, real contact with another person. Physical theatre, imagery and text combine to talk about emotional recycling as much as material recycling.
