Laboral Cinemateca closes out the year with 'El Día + Corto del Año' ('The +Short Day of the Year'), a special, free short film programme timed to the winter solstice. This Friday session, organised in collaboration with the Avilés Acción Festival, brings together four Spanish shorts: 'Una vocal', by Polo Menarguez, about a mother and daughter confronting family memories in a morgue waiting room; 'Cara de bicicleta', a documentary by Amaia Nerekan Umaran and Itziar Zorita Agirre celebrating women's freedom through the story of those who first rode bicycles in the late 19th century; 'Dissecció d'una incoherència en crisi', by Nausica Serra, a dramedy about buried envy and wounded egos that erupts in a forest; and 'El cuerpo de Cristo', an animated piece by Bea Lerma about a tormented woman who needs more than medication.
Over the rest of the weekend, Saturday brings a selection of recent Asturian shorts, and Sunday hosts the family session 'Pequeños de cine', aimed at the youngest audiences.
The Friday 18 December session runs at 7:00 pm at the Paraninfo de la Laboral. Admission is free, subject to picking up an invitation beforehand at the designated points.
