On 22 and 23 August, Teatro Jovellanos hosts the Compañía Asturiana de Comedias with Doña Josefa, a classic of post-war Asturian theatre revived almost exactly as it was first staged. The play takes us to an ordinary Asturian village in the 1950s, with its usual neighbours, their loves, their worries, their joys and their troubles: everyday things from back then that still ring true today, told in the Asturian language. The company keeps the original staging faithful to its era, while using 21st-century stagecraft to bring it to life. Performances are on Saturday 22 at 8:30pm and Sunday 23 at 7:30pm, with tickets at 15 euros; it's a show aimed both at those who remember those years and at younger audiences curious about mid-century Asturian memory and humour.
