In the days leading up to 8 September, Asturias's flagship regional holiday, the west of Asturias gears up to celebrate the Día de Asturias with events spread across San Tiso d'Abres, As Figueiras, Castropol and A Veiga/Vegadeo, this year's chosen host towns.

On Saturday, activities concentrate in A Veiga/Vegadeo, with the ECO 21 organic produce market, traditional Asturian singing from the Asociación de Cantantes y Folclore del Valle del Nalón, a large communal meal and a guided visit to the town's sculpture ensemble, among other activities.
