The Jira for Asturias Day in Gijón kicks off at 11:00 on Cerro Santa Catalina with sign-ups for the best-picnic-spread contest (tablecloth, basket and sustainability categories), ahead of the traditional parade from Plaza Mayor at 12:00. From 13:00 come the danza prima led by Ramón Villa and the puya del ramu, with the prize-giving at 14:00 and, later in the afternoon, traditional Asturian games such as stilts, skittles and clog races run by the Escuela de Xuegos Tradicionales 6 Conceyos — a full day out for the whole family.
